Currently: Member, burrp! Core Team, working as a Senior
Product Engineer.
Industry
Internet/Web Technologies
Summary
I have been with burrp! for almost 2 years now. burrp! was included in
the list of top 30 start-ups worldwide by the Business 2.0 Magazine
recently. I have been the key towards implementing various burrp!
features and functionalities, a few of them being India's first.
Programming for the web, mobile and widgetising a product are my key
competencies. Prior to burrp!, I had similar programming experience at
an IIT-Delhi incubated start-up called onyomo.com
Skills
Search and Information retrieval, Widgetising a product and Creating web-based architectures/frameworks.
Experience
-
burrp! (Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Internet industry)
August 2006 - Present
- Worked with the team to introduce a concept of hierarchy within geo-data. Locations specific
searches on burrp! local sites are now more intelligent and contextual than ever before. Implemented
the new search algorithm.
- Architect of a TV-Scheduler application which allows users to
view whats playing on TV in a google maps like draggable interface.
Optimized the design for number of requests being fired and the
caching strategy for responses.
- Widgetized the local search product. Wrote an API which can be
used by any third party site to allow its users to perform a burrp
search while being on their site.
- Designed and implemented a location parser to find out context
from user queries. The algorithm took the raw incoming "local
search" query and converted it into "what" and "where" format.
- Introduced SMS sending capabilities for the product. Wrote an
intelligent composer to utilize every single character out of the
available limit for the length of an outgoing SMS.
-
Onyomo (Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Internet industry)
November 2005 - August 2006 (10 months)
- Implemented a map application similar to google maps for Indian
cities. Designed the architecture of the application and its
interactivity.
- Wrote a data logger for all user actions on the site. The
logging was with respect to user activity on the site. Any click
performed by the user was logged along with the context of the
click. Also wrote a reporting tool for this logged data.
- Implemented the complete AJAX interface for this site which
rested on a python backend. The key differentiator for this AJAX UI
was my implementation which allowed users to use their browser's
Back and Forward buttons to navigate across AJAX requests.
-
HCL Technologies (Public Company; 10,001 or more employees;
Information Technology and Services industry)
May 2005 - November 2005 (7 months)
- Was member of various SAP implementation teams. Also wrote a web
based(ASP) application to streamline the internal project management
tool.
Education
- Bachelor of Technology (Mineral Engineering), Indian
School of Mines, 2001 - 2005.
- Cleared the IIT-JEE
2001 with an All India Rank of 3172 amongst 1,50,000 participants.
Activities
- Been an active start-up member for the past 3 years. Possess deep
understanding, knowledge and cultural know-hows of a start-up.
- I am assisting a few NGO's, working for the upliftment of
children, with my technical expertise in getting their tasks
simplified. Feel free to contact me, if you
are looking for any help on something similar.
- I am trying very hard these days to contribute as much to the
Open Source Community. Very soon, I'll be releasing my frameworks
for Machine Learning Algorithms,
JSON request-response
and a Mozilla
Plugin for XSS vulnerability testing. Currently, a suite of self
developed products could be found here - apps.avlesh.com
- Coordinated Srijan - Annual festival at ISM. Restructured the
otherwise dead Annual cultural fest of the college. Introduced an
annual technical festival at ISM for the first time. Won applauds
from the nation wide participants, advertisers and administrators for
huge success of the fest.
- Completed path breaking work on Milling technology. Presented the
concept the International Mineral Processing Technology conference.
Wishlist
- I don't want to die before making a significant contribution
to the "art of programming".
A more detailed, heavily techincal and no-nonsense CV is available on
